Students Meet with Special Effects Artist Joe La Scola.

Oakwood School’s Media Arts students have been working on creating armatures inspired by classic movies.  An armature is a metal framework on which a sculpture is molded with clay or similar material.  Ray Harryhausen is the source of inspiration for many directors and filmmakers today.

Our students had the opportunity to meet, via Skype, a New York based special effects artist who makes props for low budget films.  Joe La Scola held up some of his more recognizable work and answered student questions.  Students enjoyed watching the movie trailer for a live action Pokemon movie he worked on.

According to IMBd, Joseph La Scola is known for his work on Outhouse (2010), Swamp Zombies 2 (2018) and Adjust Your Tracking (2013).
